Scheming up a Swedish man cave

For the men out there, don’t we all just need a space to call our own?

Man caves didn’t just invent themselves overnight. Having a man cave means having a place to retreat – to watch the movies you want to watch, to scream at the sporting events you follow, to hide from your family when the in-laws are in town.

Check out our latest room makeover, dreamed up using some of the cleanest, sleekest Swedish (and Scandinavian) products around.

Furniture

Starting with the focal point of the man cave – the couch. Blå Station makes a modular couch, the Bob, that can be built straight across one wall, or shaped to fit into a corner. It comes in a couple of different tones, but we’re envisioning this couch in an “L” shape in forest green. Situated in the nest of the couch, we’d add this log bench from Swedese. Perfect for storing magazines and things underneath, and accessible to all your friends when they come over.

Every good man cave needs a bar cart. We like this one from A2 Designers: Big Move (Page 4) of its 2017 catalog. Our cart – obviously – would be stocked with one of our favorite aquavits, Absolut and some other barware essentials.

Electronics

Okay, this is Danish, but it’s wicked cool. Bang & Olufsen has everything you need for a full-on visual and auditory experience – and, its gear looks sleek, too. We’d grab the BeoVision 14, a 4K HD LED television that has its own stand built in, and pair it with the BeoLab 90, a 8,200 watt-loudspeaker, that according to its website, is “by far the most powerful sound experience” the company has ever produced. The fabric and wood accents on the speaker are also customizable – we’d go with the night blue and oak wood to play off the couch and bench.

Flanking the couch, we’d add a couple of these floor lamps by Ateljé Lyktan. There are a dozen, muted, colors to choose from – many of which would go good with our setup.

To wrap up our drinking needs, we’d get an Electrolux beverage fridge to keep all of our Omnipollos the perfect 44 degree temp.

Textiles

Because we can’t just have plain walls and floors, we’d drop down this IKEA Koldby cowhide rug under the bench into the central portion of the floor. We’d throw a couple of framed jerseys on the wall (and if you’re an Ibra fan, here’s his Sweden national jersey, and his current jersey for Manchester United).

We’d also throw a couple of these IKEA Slöjgran pillows across the couch – just because.

Accessories

For our final Swedish touches, we’d get a few things from the Butik Hemlängtan, which ships Swedish products around the world. We’re thinking these moose coasters and ice cube trays to serve your aquavit over rocks shaped as Dala horses.
