Treat Your Loved One To A Swedish Date Night In
You know we love a good DIY celebration here at Umgås (case in point, check out our Swedish-themed birthday celebration and throw your own fika articles). So, whether you’re hosting your sweetheart, planning a Galentine’s or celebrating date night with your dog (no judgment), here are a few Swedish elements to fold into your evening.
Look the part
Dress to impress, right? We’re not saying you need to wear a tux or a ballgown – actually, we advise against that, but you can still dress nice even if you’re dining in. For ladies, one of our favorite casual, yet pulled together looks is a blazer (like this one from H&M) over a cool graphic tee (like this vintage-inspired shirt from Acne Studios). Pair it with whatever shoes feel good to you and you’re all set. For the men? Try rocking the classic look of blue jeans (like these from Nudie Jeans) and a button-down Oxford (like this one from J. Lindeberg).
Swedish songs about love
Set the ambiance by playing some Swedish love tunes. Obviously, there are some classic ABBA hits, but there actually is an entire Swedish Love Songs album on Amazon that can be your playlist for the night. We’re not about sappy, mushy love songs. We like something you can dance, and maybe smooch, to. Some of our favorites?
- “Love Goes” by Ulrika: This banger is the perfect Galentine’s dance track.
- “Show Me Love” by Robyn: Want to dance like you did in middle school with the person you’re crushing on? Play this tune.
- “Save Tonight” by Eagle Eye Cherry: Make this night count (while also feeling like you’re making out in your 1992 Volvo down Lover’s Lane) with this 90s classic.
Swedish meal plan
Prepare a three-course meal, with a signature cocktail, to impress the love of your life. From your bar cart, pull together a floral-infused cocktail. Moving to the food, start with something classic, like artsoppa or a salad. For your entrée, if you’re looking for easy, try this asparagus tart with smoked salmon. But if you’re looking to flex your skills, do this garlic-studded lamb. On date night, you can’t forget dessert. End the dining experience with some chocolatey love treats.
There you go, you’re armed with the Swedish essentials. Now clean your kitchen, roll up your sleeves and get ready to impress. Good luck!
