Celebrate SmörgåsBeer at the American Swedish Historical Museum

If you couldn’t tell, Umgås-ers like to indulge in an occasional alcoholic beverage – so when we heard about the SmörgåsBeer event at the American Swedish Historical Museum (ASHM) in Philly, we were all ears!

SmörgåsBeer, in its seventh year, was created by an enthusiastic ASHM board member who wanted to pair beers with Swedish-inspired food. The event features local breweries that tap local favorites, as well as Nordic beers and ciders. In recent years, the event has grown to incorporate trivia and lawn games to appeal to a younger demographic.

“The feel of the event has always been relaxed, like a summer party,” says Kristin Pickell, a SmörgåsBeer committee volunteer and a member of ASHM. “I love how it draws all types of people and exposes them to Scandinavian traditions.”

SmörgåsBeer is part of ASHM’s active summer programming, which also includes a concert series and a crayfish party. SmörgåsBeer takes place on Saturday, July 21 at 5 p.m. at the ASHM.
