NHL All-Star Game: Keep An Eye On These Three Swedes

Swedes love themselves some hockey. And with the 2020 NHL All-Star Game this weekend, we highlight the four Swedes who made this year’s rosters. While we’re missing names like Rasmus Dahlin and André Burakovsky, there is some great talent on the ice this year.

Victor Hedman, from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, is a defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning and a three-time Norris Trophy finalist. He was the second overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, and he’s spent the past decade playing for Lightning. He won the Norris Trophy in 2018, an honor given to the league’s top defensive player.

Jacob Markström

Jacob Markström is from Gävle, Sweden and is a goalie for the Vancouver Canucks. Markström represented Sweden in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto. We wonder if he’s ever gotten face to face with the Gävle Goat (or maybe, he’s secretly blocking shots taken at the goat – we may never know).

Elias Pettersson

Elias Pettersson, from Sundsvall, Sweden, plays center for the Vancouver Canucks. He won the Calder Trophy for being

the league’s best rookie in 2019. He was selected fifth overall by the Canucks in 2017.

Jakob Silfverberg

The good news? Jakob Silfverberg, from Gävle, Sweden (another goat defender, perhaps?), of the Anaheim Ducks earned his first All-Star spot. The bad (but still good) news? He won’t make an appearance at the game because he and his wife are expecting their first child soon.
