In The News: It’s Awards Season – Kicking Things Off With Guldbagge Nominations
Big news out of Sweden this week. The nominations for this year’s Guldbagge Awards were announced, and “Border,” the film based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, led the way with nine nominations.
The troll, fantasy flick is nominated for prominent categories like Best Picture and Best Director for Iranian-Swedish director Ali Abbasi. Abbasi also wrote the film with Lindqvist and Isabella Eklöf (you may remember her name from our NIFF coverage last year). The Hollywood Reporter has all the details about the nominations. The awards ceremony will take place on Jan. 28.

Town & County highlighted Princess Madeleine’s thoughtful reflection on 2018. The royal moved her family to the States in 2018, and while that was a highlight, the Princess shared with her Instagram followers that her now 9-month-daughter Adrienne was the best thing that happened to her last year. Avicii’s parents to inherit his millions
Swedish DJ Avicii, aka Tim Bergling, died in April of 2018, and according to CNN, because the artist was unwed with no children (and no will), in accordance with Swedish law his parents are the rightful heirs to his estate. Avicii’s parents are set to inherit $25 million.

Another soccer player may have the top spot, but hitting No. 39 on Business Insider’s list of most followed Instagram accounts, is the Lion himself, Zlatan Ibrahimović. He has 35.9 million followers on the platform and joins other celebs like Beyoncé, the whole Kardashian clan and soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and David Beckham on the list.
