In Sweden, this glorious beverage has become the center of a longstanding tradition – fika (check out our piece on Fika and Fika in New York City) – that has led the International Coffee Organization (ICO) to rank Sweden as one of the Top 10 coffee-consuming countries (Swedes consume roughly nine to 10 kilograms of coffee per capita annually.)

Fika translates into taking a break or pause from work to socialize over cups of coffee. Because of this tradition, Stockholm has become home to hundreds of small coffee shops, cafés and bakeries (konditori) that sell pastries to quickly cater to hourly fika crowds.

Vete-Katten

Founded in 1928, Vete-Katten is one of the oldest coffee shops in Stockholm. Serving some of Stockholm’s most delicious coffee, it is the place to enjoy a casual weekday lunch or your morning coffee with the daily news. It is the perfect place for vegans, vegetarians or gluten-free diners can enjoy fika with savory treats. Located in an old stable, Snickarbacken 7 is a café, restaurant and exhibition space that serves some of Stockholm’s most delicious coffee. As the names suggests, Coffice is a cross between a coffee shop and office giving professionals, freelancers and students a quiet place to work. But this is not just a café with fast WiFi. Coffice offers its visitors a variety of exceptional-tasting coffee.
