Cycling’s Johansson, Mustonen Make Run at World Title

Before the UCI Road World Championships in Doha, Qatar, we were fortunate to catch up with Swedish star cyclist Emma Johansson.
Johansson, who races for trade team Wiggle High5, competed in her last Worlds over the weekend, battling the heat of Qatar and a flat course as she tried to follow up her silver medal in the Rio Olympics with a spot on the podium.
Johansson, along with legend Marianne Vos and 2015 World Champion Lizzie Deignan, made attacks with about 10 kilometers (6-plus miles) to go, but the pack chased them down. Amalia Dideriksen of Denmark was the ultimate winner of the race and the coveted rainbow jersey that goes with it.
Johansson finished 49th, helping teammate Sara Mustonen to a 17th-place finish, the highest-placing Swede, as she rides closer to retirement.
Elsewhere in Doha, Emilia Fahlin finished 16th in the women’s Individual Time Trial, and Jacob Eriksson finished 12th and Linus Kvist 29th in the Men’s Junior Road Race.
