Amidst Drama, Sweden Places Sixth At Eurovision Song ContestMay 20, 2019
For a while, it appeared Sweden was going to boast yet another Eurovision Song Contest winner.
In the end, however, Sweden’s John Lundvik was done in by the audience vote, and the Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence claimed the heralded prize.
Lundvik, whose “Too Late for Love” was the top choice of the Eurovision jury, was the last performer who could knock off Laurence since the audience votes go in the opposite order of the jury standings. Needing 253 votes to win, Lundvik received only 93 votes and ended up in sixth place overall. (The U.K. newspaper Metro captured his disappointment.)
