Decorating A Dream Scandinavian Living Room
When it comes to Swedish furniture, it’s not all about IKEA.
While it may rule the roost for coupling stylish design with wallet-friendly prices, we’re here to give you the living room of your dreams (a while back we decorated a dream bedroom with Swedish products). Whether or not you know your Swedese from your Hem or your Muuto from your Menu, we’ve got some of the best pieces you need to customize your living room in a truly Scandinavian fashion.
Furniture
Simple, but filled with character, this Eave Modular sofa from Menu is the perfect start to our living room. It mixes the classic minimalistic look with a modern twist. Perfect to sit on and even better to look at, this piece is a mainstay in any sleek living space.
Now, when you couple it with this Hai Chair and Ottoman from Hem, it gives you somewhere to kick your feet up on a Sunday to read a book or simply enjoy your morning cup of coffee. And while we’re on the subject of coffee, we have to mention the birch Multi-O piece from Norrgavel, which is a must have. This stylish coffee table is everything you could need for fika and more.
Without crowding out our living space too much, this Zig Zag shelf from Studio deFORM on Hem deserves an honorable mention. Blending simple styling with a unique twist, this shelving looks more like a piece of art than a piece of furniture.
Textiles
No room is complete without the addition of a nice rug, comfortable throw and a couple pillows.
Add to your space with this Varjo rug from Muuto. With a clever block color that stands out but doesn’t steal the show, this minimalist rug is perfect to tie everything together in your living space. Also, we may have a go-to brand for textiles now, because we also loved this Muuto Sway Throw that seems fitting for those cold nights on the couch watching a movie. This 100 percent merino wool throw is the epitome of comfort and would give any room that added bit of character. For the final touch, toss a couple knot pillows from Scandinavian Design House onto the couch and chair.
Electronics
With all of this beautiful furniture, you can’t just sit in the dark, now can you? Combine a couple of these XL Gravity Floor Lamps by Gubi, and you’ll have a well-lit room with the added bonus of some classy black marble. It’s also a great match for the mix of tones in that black Varjo rug.
Finally, to cap it all off, we had to insert an entertainment piece. Some of us here at Umgås are major music lovers, and we think the Swedish audio company Urbanears has gotten it right. It has released a colorful range of Bluetooth speakers that would fit any taste or color scheme. The Baggen is the “loud and mighty” speaker that would fill any room with high-quality sound and colors that you won’t need your gravity lamp to see!
Decor
The stage has been set. The room is furnished. But it’s still missing something– we’ve neglected the walls! We snagged a couple inexpensive prints from H&M, but the possibilities are endless.
