Celebrating St. Lucia All Around The Country
Break out the white robes and red sashes. Get your wreath and candles ready. It’s almost time to celebrate St. Lucia!
To help kick off the season, lots of SWEA chapters around the United States held annual Christmas markets and St. Lucia festivals earlier this month (like in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.), and we missed the St. Lucia Festival in Little Sweden, but there are still plenty of St. Lucia Day celebrations to come.
Here is a brief list of the many events happening around the country.
SACC-Seattle Annual Glögg and Meatball Event
Wednesday, Dec. 12
This SACC chapter is celebrating the season with meatballs and a glass of glögg (made from our friends at Sjoeblom Winery). The celebration takes place the day before St. Lucia Day, and you can expect to hear the SWEA choir and see a Lucia procession. This is a ticketed event, and you can get your tickets online or at the door. More info here.
Lucia in the Mansion Concert
Thursday, Dec. 13
This ever-popular, members-only event at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis already is SOLD OUT, but there is a wait list open. If you’re down to see a St. Lucia choir in the Turnblad Mansion Grand Hall, be sure to get on that list. More info here.
Swedish American Museum St. Lucia Day Celebrations
Thursday, Dec. 13
The Chicago museum will be hosting a day-long St. Lucia Day celebration, starting with the crowning of this year’s Lucia at noon, followed by a Lucia procession and a service at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with a final procession, holiday songs and readings. More info here.
Church of Sweden’s Annual St. Lucia Concert
Saturday, Dec. 15
This is one of the church’s largest fundraising events of the year, and while the concert actually will take place at the Church of Incarnation on Madison Avenue, we think making the one-mile trek between the two venues will be worth it. This is a ticketed concert, with tickets online or available at the Church of Sweden. More info here.
SACC-Georgia’s 33rd Annual Lucia Gala
Saturday, Dec. 15
Who doesn’t love a gala? The Georgia SACC will be hosting its annual event, which includes a smorgasbord, Scandinavian drinks and a Lucia procession, live music and more. The event is ticketed. More info here.
Traditional St. Lucia Celebration
Saturday, Dec. 15
The Swedish School of Connecticut, located in Westport, is holding its annual St. Lucia celebration on. There will be a procession, followed by glögg and saffron buns. There are single and family tickets available online. More info here.
