ABBA’s Greatest Hits Among Best-Selling Albums Of All-Time
You may have heard that The Eagles’ “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975” just surpassed Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as the best-selling album of all time in the United States with 38 million copies sold.
Worldwide, “Thriller” still holds the top spot, with 47 million copies sold, according to Paste magazine, which compiled the Top 25 best-selling albums of all time.
Checking in at No. 13 is ABBA, the Swedish pop superstars whose “Gold: Greatest Hits” has been certified to have sold 22 million copies, including 6 million in the United States.
The album, originally released in 1992, included hits like “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “Mamma Mia” and hit No. 1 in 12 countries, according to Wikipedia. And, according to Paste, it sold more copies than any album except for Queen’s “Greatest Hits” in the United Kingdom.
And it continues to sell today.
According to Billboard, streams of ABBA’s music were up nearly 40 percent earlier this year after the band announced in late April it was reuniting to make new music for the first time in more than three decades. That includes “Gold: Greatest Hits,” which actually entered the Billboard 200 in early May.
