Seattle Readies For New Nordic MuseumFebruary 15, 2018
The New Nordic Museum is coming.
Seattle’s Nordic Heritage Museum closed in November after welcoming visitors to its Ballard neighborhood location since 1980. The museum, to be called the New Nordic Museum, is scheduled to reopen May 5 in its new 57,000-square-foot location on Market Street in the heart of Ballard.
According to the museum’s website, “The new museum design is organized around a linear ‘fjord’ that weaves together stories of the Nordic region and of the Nordic-American experience. Bridges crossing the fjord intensify the experience of migration, connecting Nordic and Nordic-American exhibits.”
The museum will feature exhibits, a café, a store, an auditorium and classrooms as part of its $45 million renovation.
