The Gävle Goat Survives The Holidays

The New Year is off to a great start: the Gävle Goat survived the 2017 holiday season.

The famous 42-foot-high straw goat, erected each year – and burned to the ground most years – for the holidays in Gävle, Sweden, celebrated Christmas and New Year’s and now is being dismantled…on purpose.

What was the secret to thwarting vandals this year?

While we might have called on Mikael Persbrandt (Gunvald Larsson), Alicia Vikander (Lara Croft) or Dolph Lundgren (Ivan Drago) to stand guard, Gävle turned to ex-convicts as guards and large fences to protect the goat, according to National Geographic.

Cheers to a happy and healthy New Year!
